"The Ankh" is the first cd in a trilogy planned to be completed by the end of 2007.
The music on this first album is the first part of a live recording from 2005 (Petrol). This was Othin Spake's 3rd gig. The last song comes from their first gig (at Archiduc, Brussels), also the very first time the boys met each other. All the music is freely improvised...no harmony, no structure, no melody was set in advance. Othin Spake chose to put it as a complete set without cuts on the cd because of the very natural flow of the music.
The basic recordings were of a terrible sound-quality (gated drums, a very compressed sound,...) and during the set Jozef and Mauro's amplifiers broke. Christine Verschorren worked a lot to restaure some of the original soundquality of Othin Spake. She managed to get an as warm as possible sound out of very "crappy " recordings.
"The Ankh" remains a very rough sounding album but reflects quite well the energy of the band.
The next two albums of the trilogy will be the complete "Archiduc recordings" and a mix of some studio-improvisations Othin Spake did.
