Shadow Mo Trio’s debut release “Don’t Stay EP” is more than just a collection of songs – it is a statement of sound and identity. Across six tracks, the trio moves fluidly between vulnerability and defiance, weight and lightness, intimacy and freedom, shaping an adventurous sonic landscape that is as raw as it is refined. Released on their own imprint Between Lines Records, with striking artwork by Ghent-based artist Nicolas Van Parys, the EP embodies independence: uncompromising, personal and alive. The journey begins with Ruff, featuring poet Toby Thompson whose voice cuts through dense rhythms, immediately setting the tone with a collision of groove and spoken word. From there the playful irony of 7 Dwarfs unfolds, its childlike opening gradually shifting into something sharper and darker. Reverberate follows as a studio jam, an unpolished improvisation where resonance and texture take the lead and freedom is the message. The title track Don’t Stay balances fragility and urgency, its haunting melody echoing a plea not to linger but to move forward. With Out of Grace the music turns inward, sparse and searching, circling around loss yet hinting at transformation. Finally Breathe closes the EP with space and relief, offering a deep inhale and exhale – music as release. In its entirety, “Don’t Stay EP” is a debut that does not seek perfection but truth, inviting the listener into a world both intimate and fearless.
