NEW YORK MINUTE

New York Minute is inspired by the accelerated daily life in NYC, it’s not only a jazz album, it tells a story, a story of the city and it's people. Alongside the songs, you will find several interludes with New Yorkers conversations and sounds of the city, guiding you through a musical journey.

I composed each song during a period where I challenged myself to write one composition per week. the whole album is recorded within 2 hours, 1 or 2 takes per song. This way it delivers the instinctive and natural energy that I wanted for his Album; intuitive and fresh music. All the interludes are short improvisations, spontaneously done. I only decided the key and the tempo before recording. To make it even more spontaneous, the trio didn't play together before, in fact, not even rehearsed together before the recording session, so yes it is quite a fresh recording session we could say…

All this would not have been possible without the great collaboration of the two amazing musicians playing on my records: Jongkuk Kim on drums and Ben Rolston on Bass.

FINE ART & POETRY

In collaboration with other New York artists, visual artist Dionne and poet L Marie Cook it became a complete all round project. L Marie Cook wrote and recited the poem Hypatia, as an addition to my song Dear Hypatia. Inspired by the story of Hypatia, a philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician, she lived in and worked in a male dominated Alexandria (Egypt), in the 4th century AD. Dionne made the painting for the album adding her own vision of the city where she also resides and the "New York Minute" concept.
